We Should Be Careful Who We Choose To Follow

During this last weeks reading we were studying in Isaiah. A lot of times people have a hard time understanding what was being said during these scriptures, but if we really look we can find a lot of really useful information. In Isaiah chapter 3:12 Isaiah is talking from the viewpoint of the savior to the people. He says, “they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.”

I thought this verse of scripture was really important because it shows us we need to be careful of who we choose to follow. During and before Isaiah’s time there was a lot of turnover for rulers of Israel. All throughout 1st and 2nd kings we read about how some people ruled in righteousness and how others ruled in wickedness. Interestingly enough, when the rulers were evil the people generally were as well and vice versa. A leader can have a great effect on those they are over and we should not blindly follow anyone.

In our world today we have so many voices saying, “come, follow me.” How do we know which ones we should listen to? There are a lot of answers to that question but ultimately we should follow the inspiration and revelation that we receive from Heavenly Father. When we choose to follow righteous people and ideas we can create a lot of good in the world and foster an environment of peace and well being. I encourage you to look at the people, things, ideas, values etc. that you choose to follow in your life. Are they ultimately leading you to do good and be good? I know that as we seek Heavenly Fathers guidance we will not be lead astray.
