God speaks to prophets today

As I was doing my studying this week I came across a pretty well known scripture in Amos 3:7. It says, “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret to His servants the prophets.”

Right there we learn a few different things. God does not work in the dark away from us, the prophets are His servants, and God has a pattern of calling prophets.

Whenever we read the scriptures we are reading the words of the prophets who wrote them. They received revelation from God to write and share certain things and experiences with us. From the beginning of time God has called prophets. The prophets did not end with the apostles. God still calls prophets today because He wants us to receive revelation and guidance that he has for us. Prophets cannot just be anyone though, they must be called of Him and by Him. It is not something anyone can just claim.

The prophets are God’s servants and as such we can trust them. The prophets only have our best interests in mind and God will not let them lead us astray. The great thing is that we do not just have to take the prophets word for everything. We can gain a personal testimony for ourselves of everything they say, and that testimony comes from God and let’s us know that He has called this person as his prophet. We have a living prophet today that God has called and his name is Russel M. Nelson.

One of the great things about God is that he does not work in the dark. all His works are plain and easy to understand. He wants us to understand what He does and why. That is another reason that we have prophets, so we can be informed. I know that as we listen to the prophet and follow his counsel we will be blessed and we will be prepared for anything ahead of us.
