Hey Everyone! This week I wanted to talk about symbols. Throughout the scriptures we see countless examples of symbols and they are used frequently. Symbols are great teaching tools because they encourage us to think harder and longer about a topic. The more time we spend getting to know a principle the more learning we can gain.
We were recently reading In the book of Joshua about the Israelite’s experience coming into the promised land. There was a lot of symbolism in this experience. When the Israelites crossed the river Jordan they did so on dry ground as the river receded before them. This had reference to when they left Egypt and was symbolic of the help they received from God. After crossing the river they also grabbed 12 stones from the river and made a memoir out of them which symbolized the 12 tribes. A really cool thing I learned is that river stones are usually smooth and polished because they have a river beating at them constantly. This symbolized how through their afflictions they had gained their blessings.
I know that as we put forth more effort, we will be able to find symbols in our own lives and we will be able to learn from them. God is always trying to speak to us and He will often do so through symbols.
