The Importance of Good Parents in the Home

So I’m super excited to be able to share this blog and the things that I have been learning in my old testament class. I love being able to connect with others and share what I have learned through study and experience.

This past week we were reading through the beginning sections of the bible. There was a part that I read in Moses 6:5-6 that says,

And a abook of remembrance was kept, in the which was recorded, in the language of Adam, for it was given unto as many as called upon God to write by the spirit of inspiration;

And by them their children were taught to read and write, having a language which was pure and undefiled.

These verses stuck out to me for 2 reasons;

  • We should keep records for our children so they can know and learn from us
  • Parents should be the source of truth for their children and teach them with love

I feel that we should take time to record all the experiences of our lives along with the lessons that we have learned so that our children may benefit from them. The world, if we are not careful, will try to teach our families whatever is popular at the time. When we keep records, they will have truth from an undefiled source.

The reason that the children in these verses learned pure truth was because they had parents who invested time in them and took the time to care. Sometimes as a parent you don’t realize the effect that a little bit of well invested time can have on a child. My wife and I currently do not have children, but I look forward to the day that we do. My goal as a future father is to make sure that my kids know who I am and trust me wholeheartedly. I want to be the kind of father, that Adam and his sons were, who takes time for each individual child, who cares for them and loves them above all else.

I would love to hear your guys’ comments and insights as well! thank you for spending some time with me here today!

  1. Great start buddy boy. Enjoyed your thoughts and insite….the phrase that stood out for me was the need for a pure and undefiled language to be learned and used to record this record. For us old folks it’s sometimes hard to follow conversations and understand fully what is being expressed. Does… dude…mean boy or girl or just wow…is bad….good or bad..is …we need some coke ….time to call the cops? It’s good to have these verses brought to our attention. The Lord has a perfect language he taught Adam and had him record in that language, maybe just to avoid slang expressions and trendy word usage from creeping in and confusing or diluting what we are trying to express to our children….makes me want to be more careful in how I record what I want my children to remember
